Army Reserves gives you 20,000 for college. During active duty, you could get up to 73,000 for college. You will not use this money if on active duty because while active duty you will get to use 4,500 per year for college.

DO NOT JOIN THE ARMED FORCES FOR EDUCATION BENEFITS!!!!!
Now that that has been addressed Join and serve because you want to. I am tired of hearing all the whining about “I did not join for this or that”
Be A Soldier do you part and for the love of GOD EARN your benefits or seek life elsewhere.

Guard and/or reserve educational benefits vary by branch and by state or location. Some states like Texas, Illinois, and Arizona are very generous in their distribution of education dollars. Other states merely allow you to qualify for in-state tuition and that is it, beyond use of the MGIB if you qualify. You can go through ROTC and if on a scholarship they will pay for your tuition, books, and even give you a monthly stipend. Then, you have a choice to go active or reserve. If you choose to go active, you have the opportunity to go to school and the military will pay for your advanced civil schooling. Best thing to do is contact an enrollment advisor at the ROTC unit at the school you want to go to (if available) and they will be the best source of information on benefits, without the pressure of trying to recruit you. If the school you want to go to does not have ROTC then I would contact a guard/reserve recruiter from that area.
